THE MINUTES OF THE BUSINESS MEETING OF FLEETWOOD AND CLEVELEYS LIONS CLUB. HELD at the ELIZABETH NORTH EUSTON HOTEL, THE ESPLANADE FLEETWOOD ON WEDNESDAY 26th MARCH 2008 THE MEETING WAS CHAIRED BY CLUBS PRESIDENT KELVIN PRINCE GUESTS Paul Isherwood. THE MEETING The meeting was opened at 7.35pm by Lion President Kelvin who welcomed all fellow Lions. APOLOGIES Irene Fullalove, David Brocklehurst, James Woods,Margaret Harris. MINUTES OF LAST MEETING. The date of Kirkham Vegas Night, should read 19th April. PRESIDENTS REPORT The President presented Jackets to Wyre Juniors F.C. On March 1st Pictures of the event are to appear on The Club website on March 8th, The President attended the Area Convention on March 15th he was present at the Swimarathon and will be attending the March Social at Blackpool and Fylde College on March 27th. A copy of the latest Amazon Project Newsletter is available for all to read. The award to Lion Carol for membership during her year, has been received and should be sewn onto a Club Banner when this is available sponsorship form for Young Ambassador is also available for any suitable young person, Lion Fred has a prospective candidate in mind. The Lancaster Charter Dinner will be on 20th April. Poulton Charter Dinner will be held on 12th April, anyone wanting to attend, should contact Denis Bowker. Douglas Valley Charter Dinner will be held on 13th April. Leigh Charter Dinner will be held on 12th April. Lion President Kelvin attended a meeting of the Charter committee on 6th March. SECRETARY'S REPORT . A Peace Poster Pack is to be requested from District, for use on visits to schools. A letter is to be sent to Tom Tyson asking him to attend our Charter Night. Lion Brian attended the Swimarathon but was disappointed with the P.A. System, it required new batteries which were not available. Copies of photos of the Swimarathon should be passed to Lion Stuart. An article has appeared in The Fleetwood Weekly News regarding our search for the Geoff Harris Trophy, which is missing, hopefully this will help jog someone's memory. . ENTERTAINMENT The March Social will be held at Blackpool and Fylde College Restaurant, 6.30 for 7.00pm On the top floor of the main building at Bispham Campus at the College the cost will be £13.50. Any money outstanding should be paid to Sonja at the venue. The April Social will be held at Seniors Thornton on 9th April 7.0 for 7.30 The Club discussed the menu and cost of our next Charter Dinner, which will be held on 1st November 2008. The cost of £25 per head was agreed, Lion Les was the proposer and Lion Donald was the seconder, the majority of the meeting agreed. ACTIVITIES Lion Carole thanked all who went to Tesco on Good Friday, £80 was raised. It was suggested that, in future we should not sell raffle tickets there, it was agreed that it was not the right sort of place to sell raffle tickets. Lion Stuart and Mavis and Lion Fred sold Easter raffle tickets at Weatherspoons and raised £70 The winners wanted the egg to be donated to charity, Lion Stuart suggested Brian House and delivered it there the next day. Twelve teams took part in the Swimarathon last week,pledging a total of £2500. The cost of the pool is£125 per hour, we are currently in discussions with the Manager regarding a possible reduction. Letters have been sent out, asking the teams to collect their sponsorship money, so that we can make our donation to Macmillan Nurses. It was agreed that we should present a medal to all who take part in future Swimarathons and possibly present each team with a trophy. It was also agreed that we would present a minimum of £1500 to Macmillan Nurses and more if possible. Lion Tony agreed to investigate the date of the next Sport Relief, to try and avoid a clash of dates as happened this year. COMMUNITY SERVICES CARNIVAL REPORT The committee have held a meeting and all is going according to plan. They are hope full that the budget will be met. The procession this year will start at 10.30. The next meeting of the committee will be 17th April. TALKING NEWSPAPER . The next meeting will be held on 14th April.. YOUTH REPORT . PUBLIC RELATIONS We have had four mentions in the local press, regarding our activities. . MEMBERS WELFARE Lion Les is unwell and is unable to go on holiday tomorrow as a result. Lion Irene is having her third operation on Friday. The thoughts of all the members are with her and we look forward to seeing her getting better. She is currently on Ward 4 at the Royal Preston Hospital. Lion David is having his hip replacement surgery this week, we all wish him a speedy recovery. . WELFARE . MEMBERSHIP Val Hoylands letter of resignation has been received. A young lady spoke to Lion Fred at the Swimarathon and showed some interest in joining Lions. She may attend a future meeting. ANY OTHER MATTERS Brian; The Change over Dinner will be Club and Zone combined, other clubs should be invited. The meal will be a choice of Beef or Salmon at £11 per person, with coffee optional extra. Fred; A probable Young Ambassador will be contacted At Convention, reference was made to a Club Scrap Book, is the club interested? The next District Governor has asked to be lead Club in organising the 2010 Convention, it was agreed that the Club would ponder the request until the next business meeting Paul Isherwood said that he was interested in becoming a member of the club and will be attending our next meeting. It was agreed, after some discussion that we should proceed with the Club Directory after the next change over in June. . . RAFFLES Wine Won by John Cook 60 Club £20 Mary Lion No 6 £15 John Cook No 17 TAILTWISTER Lion Fred did some brisk business. The meeting ended at 9.35 with a toast to Lions International. .
