MINUTES OF THE BUSINESS MEETING OF FLEETWOOD & CLEVELEYS LIONS CLUB HELD ON 28th March 2012 AT NORTH EUSTON HOTEL, ESPLANADE FLEETWOOD
Welcome President Denis welcomed everyone to the meeting, including guests Chris Hilton and Holly from Asda, at 7.30 pm.
Apologies
Apologies were received from Marjorie Gibson, Margaret Harris, Jenny German, Les Williams, Cyril Layland, Pamela Hamilton and Jennie Wilson.
Minutes of Previous Meeting
The minutes were accepted. Proposed by Lion Mike and seconded by DG Ian.
Matters Arising
None.
President and Secretary’s Report. Denis
1. Denis explained L.C.I.F. for the benefit of the visitors.
2. All members were asked to take a badge for the Measles campaign, the cost to be paid from the Admin. Account.
3. The District Governors News Letter has been received and is being circulated.
4. The International News Letter is also being circulated.
5. We have received an invitation to Clitheroe Lions Club Charter on 20th April.
6. A weekly issue of 105 BN Digest is now being issued.
7. A reminder that Lancaster and Morecambe Charter Lunch is on 22nd April
8. The Minutes of the last Zone Meeting have been received.
9. There is to be a Sponsored Walk to raise funds for the Zone Project.
10. The Club has been awarded a Membership Retention Patch.
11. There is to be a Cemetery Open Day at Fleetwood Cemetery.
12. The receipted order form for the 31st March Tombola has been received.
13. The District Hand Over Dinner will be held at Lancaster on Sunday 22nd July.
14. There will be a Zone Casino Night at Kirkham on Monday 28th May 7.30 for 8.00 pm.
15. A Thank You Card has been received from Lion Margaret Harris.
16. Pictures of the Swimarathon are being circulated.
17. Pictures of the Zone Charity Event are being circulated.
18. The Club Hand Over will be on 5th July.

We have received £220. for spectacles and £20 donation from the rag man.
Community Services (Fred)
A meeting was arranged on two occasions with a young lady in Poulton, who had been referred by Regenda but she did not attend either meeting.
Activities. Carole
The swimarathon was a success, thanks to Stuart for all his hard work and all those who helped, particularly the lap markers. The amount pledged is £2800.
We raised £45 at the Car Boot sale, we will be having another one in the Autumn.
The Easter Egg Raffles will be held at the following places,
The River Wyre Hotel, two eggs, Easter Sunday at 1.00pm and 5.00pm
Witherspoons Cleveleys Easter Saturday at 3.00pm
The Mount Good Friday at 4.00pm
Witherspoons Fleetwood Easter Sunday at 3.30pm.

We have received good publicity in the Fleetwood Weekly News.
Donald has had information about a lady from Norbreck who has recently been widowed and would like to know what Lions is about.
Lion James informed the meeting that Ian Buck has been chosen to carry the Olympic Torch for a section in Lytham, in recognition of all his charity work.
Entertainment
Lion Sonja is organizing the April Social, it will be at the Highcross Poulton on Thursday 26th April 7.00 for 7.30.
The May Social is being organized by Paul and Juris, it will be held at The Mount on 9th May 6.30 for 7.00pm Choices can be given to the organizers at the April Business Meeting.
Lion Stuart has asked for the following to be added to these minutes. We need to bring down the average cost of socials, with such things as, a Bingo Night, Beetle drive, with sandwiches/chips. We could also arrange visits places such as, RNLI, Police Station, Fire Station or Health Centre.
Almoner’s Report Donald.
Les Williams is not well, Marjorie is confined to her bed, Margaret Harris is progressing very well and looking forward to Good Friday when she can drive again, in her card she thanks all who have sent their good wishes and Sonja who has helped her with shopping and other needs. Cyril is doing well, he has progressed from two crutches to one stick and getting out and about. Jenny German has had an eye operation today so we are all wishing her well.

The next meeting will be on 16th April at 7.00 for 7.30.
Tony Blundell has given up his work for the Talking Newspaper, Brian has taken over and is busy learning how to do it.

Donald;- Tried, unsuccessfully to get lions information into places such as Doctors surgeries
D.G.;- Thanks to all who supported him at the District Convention at Lancaster. A deal is currently being arranged with Classic FM Radio for advertising.
James Woods;- Thanks have been received from Ian Buck for the support he received at the Swimarathon.
Stuart;- Could certificates of appreciation be sent to all groups who took part in the Swimarathon.
Holly from Asda;- Holly is the “Community Life Champion” at Asda and explained that the company wish to help charity projects in the area. They will help us organize Bag Packing in the store. They have also space available for meetings etc. and a notice board where we can advertise any events we are organizing. Holly can be contacted on 01253 879400 ext 222.
